Major Accident Avoided in Gangabai Ghat Area as Electric Line Falls on School Van
Nagpur, India- A major accident was narrowly avoided in the Gangabai Ghat area when an overhead electric line and poles fell onto a school van carrying a dozen kindergarten students. Thankfully, all the children were unharmed.
The incident happened around 10 am as the school van was driving through Gangabai Ghat. Parts of the electric line collapsed onto the road, with one section landing directly on the van. The power supply was automatically cut off, preventing further danger.
Residents quickly gathered and helped the children out of the van. Police and MSEDCL workers arrived soon after being informed. The power supply was restored by 2 pm after repairs were completed.
Residents had previously complained to MSEDCL about the poor condition of the electric lines and poles. Despite promises from officials, only a few improvements had been made, with two poles replaced after a local MLA intervened. MSEDCL officials said a vehicle hitting a pole caused the incident, but some residents believe heavy rains weakened the soil around the poles, leading to their fall.
“This could have been a major tragedy if the power supply was not automatically cut off,” said a resident who saw the incident.
