A tragic accident occurred on the Samruddhi Expressway in Wardha district on Sunday when a speeding car lost control and overturned, resulting in the death of two women on the spot, while three others were seriously injured. The accident took place near channel number 70-500 on the expressway as the car was traveling from Nagpur to Shirdi.
According to reports, the victims were part of a family from Bengaluru who were returning from the Kumbh Mela and had planned to visit Shirdi after reaching Nagpur. During the journey, the driver attempted to overtake a truck that was in the wrong lane, leading to the car overturning at high speed. The accident claimed the lives of 32-year-old Ramyashree Naresh Naidu and 45-year-old Shakuntala Ramakrishnayya, while three others sustained serious injuries.
The injured include 35-year-old Najayya Kolur Shivahriday, 6-year-old Poorva Naresh Naidu, and another passenger, all of whom have been admitted to Acharya Vinoba Bhave Rural Hospital in Sawangi. Upon receiving information about the accident, Sawangi Police reached the scene, conducted panchnama, and sent the bodies for post-mortem.
Rising Accidents on Samruddhi Expressway
Accidents on the Samruddhi Expressway are becoming increasingly frequent. Despite several safety measures implemented by the administration and Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation, accidents continue to occur. Although separate lanes for heavy and light vehicles are designated, the lack of compliance leads to fatal accidents.
The Samruddhi Expressway is under scrutiny for its lack of safety and maintenance. It is a long stretch in Wardha district that attracts a high volume of speeding vehicles. Over 20 accidents have occurred in this area so far, making the expressway increasingly dangerous.
Given the rising number of accidents, there is an urgent need for the administration to enforce stricter safety measures on the Samruddhi Expressway to prevent such tragic incidents. Sawangi Police are currently investigating the case.
