Man Duped of Rs 23 Lakh in Online Investment Scam
A 53-year-old man residing in Ganeshpeth fell prey to an online scam, losing a whopping Rs 23 lakh. Subhash Kumar Krushnamohan Shahu received a call on January 15 from an unknown person who persuaded him to invest in the share market with promises of doubling his money. Shahu was convinced and joined a WhatsApp group called 'C9 Blackrock Stock Pull Up,' where he invested the entire sum across various schemes.
Initially, the fraudsters showcased profits in the WhatsApp group until March 6. However, when Shahu tried to withdraw his earnings, the customer care advised him to wait for even more significant gains. But as he persisted, the fraudsters ceased responding to his calls. Realizing he had been swindled, Shahu reported the incident to the police.
The police have taken action, registering a case under Sections 420, 467, 468, and 471 of the IPC, and Sections 66 (d) of the IT Act. This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder to exercise caution and verify thoroughly before investing large sums online.
