Man Faces Rape Charges After Abandoning 20-Year-Old Pregnant Co-Worker
Nagpur, India: Nagpur police arrested a man, identified as Dheeraj Kumar, for allegedly raping his co-worker under the pretext of marriage and abandoning her after learning about her pregnancy. Dheeraj, a resident of Motihari district in Bihar, reportedly left the 20-year-old victim pregnant and left no contact.
The victim, a 20-year-old woman from Chhapra district, Bihar, moved to Nagpur with her family 14 years ago and was working as a daily wage labourer. For the past six years, she has been employed at construction sites around the Ajni railway station area, where she met Dheeraj, who worked for a different contractor.
Dheeraj expressed interest and promised to marry her. Trusting the accused, the victim entered into a relationship, they frequently meet in the evenings, under the Ajni railway bridge, where they allegedly engaged in physical relations.
When her work at Ajni came to an end, the victim and her family relocated to work on the Guard Lines and Itwari railway stations, but Dheeraj continued to visit her. However, upon learning of her pregnancy, he cut off all contact and left Nagpur uninformed.
The victim’s family asked her, and then she revealed her Pregnancy. Her family reported the matter to the railway police. Following a medical examination, that confirmed her pregnancy at 20 weeks, the police filed a rape complaint against Dheeraj Kumar.
