Many Illegal Bangladeshis Flee Nagpur After March 17 Violence

Nagpur, India: The police arrested a Bangladeshi national named Azizul Nijanul Rahman (29) for illegally staying in India. He was caught by the Mumbai Police Crime Branch from Dadar. The police are now investigating whether Azizul was involved in the violence that occurred in Nagpur on March 17.
Azizul was detained by Crime Branch Unit 2 in Dadar and sent to 2-day police custody. Police found out that he is from Manapur in Bangladesh and travelled to Mumbai via Pune and Nagpur.
Police suspect that Azizul was in Nagpur during the violence. He was living in Hasanbagh, Nagpur, before moving to Dadar. Azizul, who works as a daily wage labourer, admitted to making an Aadhaar card using fake documents. Police are checking his mobile phone location to gather more information. Details of his arrest have been shared with the Nagpur Police.
After the Nagpur violence, many illegal Bangladeshis living in the city have disappeared and moved to different places. Crime Branch sources revealed that apart from Azizul, many others are hiding their identities, and the search for them is ongoing.
