Movie Review: Alia Bhatt, Ranveer Singh Featuring Movie Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani
Karan Johar's Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani, brings up the classic elements of the typical masala movie, with family drama and emotional entertainment. however, despite the excitement surrounding Johar's comeback after 7 years, the movie falls short of delivering a smooth cinematic experience. the story takes too long time to engage the viewers and eventually makes an endless loop of romance and life lessons.
while the movie does offer the typical zest that fan associates with Karan Johar cinema, it doesn't come without flaws. the movie disappoints with its stereotypical portrayal of Punjabis as loud and uncultured, and Bengalis as over-educated and Intellectual. individuals. such cliches feel outdated and dampen the overall enjoyment of the movie.
Additionally, the movie displays objectification of its male lead, which contradicts the audience's desire for a more respectful depiction of female characters in Bollywood. When Rocky Randhawa (played by Ranveer Singh) enters an exaggerated song, wearing a low-cut shirt and with an oily chest, it feels unnecessary and takes away from the storyline.
In contrast, the character of Rani Chatterjee played by Alia Bhatt is introduced in a powerful scene where she confronts a politician regarding the increasing cases of rape. The plot of the story revolves around the love story of Rocky and Rani, who endeavour to reunite their grandparents, Kanwal (played by Dharmendra) and Jamini (played by Shabana Azmi), who had fallen in love in 1978 but were forced apart due to their respective marital situations.
Rocky and Rani are rekindling their old-world romance, but they face challenges due to their different family backgrounds. To gain their families' approval, they agree to switch households for three months. However, their plan turns out to be more complicated than they anticipated. The film takes viewers on an emotional rollercoaster, showcasing the struggles, conflicts, self-discovery, and regrets that ensue.-discovery, and regrets that ensue.
To sum up, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani tells a charming but not flawless love story. It successfully portrays Karan Johar's film style but lacks originality and innovation. However, the movie still manages to connect with the audience through its emotional scenes, making it an enjoyable viewing for fans of Bollywood films.
