MSEDCL Urges Public to Avoid Waste Disposal Near Electrical Infrastructure
Nagpur, India: The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has advised the public to avoid disposing of or setting fire to waste near electrical infrastructure, including power lines, transformers, feeder pillars, and distribution boxes, to reduce the risk of fires and power outages.
These incidents not only pose a threat to the electricity infrastructure but also lead to unnecessary disruptions for both the public and the power company.
Following the recent Diwali celebrations, significant amounts of waste, such as leftover firecrackers and debris from cleaning, have accumulated in several areas. In some locations, this waste has been carelessly discarded near power lines, feeder pillars, distribution transformers, and other outdoor electrical equipment.
In the past, fires have caused damage to underground cables and other electrical equipment, leading to power outages in the affected areas. Given the current high daytime temperatures, the risk of accidental fires starting from this waste is higher than usual.
The rising temperatures also pose a threat to electrical systems. Waste piles beneath overhead power lines can catch fire, potentially melting the wires and causing power disruptions.
MSEDCL has urged residents throughout the district to keep waste away from exposed electrical systems and to avoid burning any waste in these areas.
MSEDCL has recommended that any fires near electrical equipment be promptly reported to their toll-free numbers: 1912, 19120, 1800-212-3435, or 1800-233-3435.
