MSRTC Employees Protest Over Delayed Salaries and Pending Demands

Nagpur, India: Despite the state government's declaration, workers of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) have not yet been paid their salaries. On March 5, MSRTC employees organized protests throughout the state, including one outside the Ganeshpeth ST Depot in Nagpur.

The protest, led by the Maharashtra ST Workers Union, saw the workers accusing the government of being untruthful and calling for the payment of their overdue salaries. They also issued a warning, threatening to go on strike if their demands were not addressed.

Ajay Hattewar, the State Vice President of the Maharashtra ST Workers Union, explained that the protest was organized to protect the rights of employees from all eight depots, the divisional workshop, and the divisional office in Nagpur. He highlighted that, even though a wage increase was announced five months ago, the government has not yet implemented the pay raise as promised.

During discussions between the joint action committee of various unions, MSRTC, and the government, the state had promised a salary increase starting in April 2020. However, the pay raise was delayed until April 2024, which employees view as a betrayal. Additionally, several other demands remain unresolved, leading ST employees to protest for their rightful dues.

Hattewar further warned that if the government and MSRTC do not meet their demands immediately, the protest will escalate in the coming days.
