Nagpur Administration Reinforces Monsoon Safety Measures After Bhushi Dam Incident

In light of the recent tragic incident at Bhushi Dam in Lonavala, where five people lost their lives, the Nagpur district administration is intensifying its efforts to ensure safety during the monsoon season. Collector and District Magistrate Dr. Vipin Itankar is urging citizens to exercise extreme caution while visiting popular monsoon spots.

Nagpur district boasts scenic locations such as Vaki, Zilpi, Khindsi, Vena Ambazari, Rama, and Rakhi lakes, as well as the Kanhan, Pench, and Vena rivers, and pilgrimage sites like Ambhora Devasthan, Ghoghara Mahadev, and Dhapewada Vitthal Temple. To prevent similar tragedies, Dr. Itankar has instructed relevant department heads to reinforce disaster management measures at these sites.

Key safety measures include establishing restricted areas around lakes, rivers, and other reservoirs, with clear control lines and warning boards to prevent tourists from entering dangerous zones. The administration has also directed local authorities to ensure advisory boards with safety instructions, lifeguards, rescue boats, and other emergency equipment are readily available.

In situations where water levels rise over bridges or roads, the Public Works Department is mandated to close affected routes temporarily and put up warning boards. Dr. Itankar emphasized that any delay or negligence in implementing these safety measures will result in accountability for the responsible officers and department heads.

Citizens are urged to cooperate with the administration, adhere to the safety guidelines, and remain vigilant to ensure a safe and enjoyable monsoon tourism experience in Nagpur.
