Nagpur Cityscape Gets a Makeover: inauguration of city's longest flyover, new railway under bridge and NMIMS centre announcement
On Saturday, several new infrastructure projects were announced and inaugurated in Nagpur. The Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, along with other dignitaries such as the Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and MP Krupal Tumane, attended the bhoomipujan ceremony of the Indora Square to Dighori Square flyover, which is set to be the longest in the city at 8.9 km. The flyover, which will cost Rs 998.27 crore, is expected to take three years to complete and will include two railway over bridges and a railway under bridge.
In addition to the flyover, other infrastructure projects were also announced, including the construction of new concrete roads worth Rs 1,000 crore and the beautification of Sakkardara lake with a food plaza and parking space. Gadkari also announced that the Pardi flyover and Kamptee double-decker bridge works would be completed in two months, and two flyovers on Amravati Road would be completed in three months. Furthermore, he announced that the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) would be opening a centre in Nagpur soon.
During the ceremony, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis spoke about other upcoming projects such as a parking plaza, a smart traffic management system, and an agricultural facility centre at Dabha. The Y-shape flyover (Ram Jhula extension) and the new Loha PulRuB were also dedicated to the public by Gadkari and Fadnavis. Other dignitaries also spoke on the occasion, including MLAs Krishna Khopde and Pravin Datke, MLC Chandrashekhar Bawankule, and Municipal Commissioner Radhakrishnan B.
Gadkari emphasized the quality of construction and stated that the Indora Square-Dighori Square flyover would be constructed using steel fiber beams. Fadnavis noted that the Nagpur Municipal Corporation had received Rs 300 crore from the Central Road Fund and that 100 important roads in the city would be concretised. These projects are expected to have a significant impact on the city's infrastructure and transportation.
