Nagpur CP releases a documentary to stop usage of Nylon Manja

On Tuesday, Nagpur Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar released an awareness documentary as part of his efforts to halt the use and sale of the outlawed nylon manja. The Bombay High Court and the National Green Tribunal have both banned this harmful material.

Following the implementation of CrPC 144, which prohibited the sale, acquisition, distribution, or stocking of nylon manja, Commissioner Kumar has now instructed the Crime Branch and all police station in-charges to step up their efforts against vendors or purchasers of this lethal thread. In eight cases so far this year, the city police have confiscated nylon manja supplies valued at more than Rs 3 lakh.

The police in Nagpur have identified Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat as the producers of nylon manja. The Maharashtra government has outlawed the usage and sale of nylon manja, yet it is still readily available online.

The chief secretary has been asked by the court to inform their colleagues in Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh about the matter, and the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) has been called. Furthermore, the Maharashtra government has been criticized by the court for its incapacity to adequately control the use of nylon manja.
