Nagpur Crime Branch Cracks Down on ATM Theft Gang, Arrests Two

Nagpur, India: On August 29, 2024, between 5:45 AM and 7:15 AM, an ATM theft occurred near Hanuman Temple at Golibar Chowk in the Tehsil police station area of Nagpur. A complaint was filed by Swapnil Gabhne, 26, a Channel Manager with an electronic payment service company, reporting that an unknown person had tampered with an SBI ATM, resulting in theft and damage. The police registered the case under Sections 379 (theft) and 427 (mischief causing damage) of the Indian Penal Code.

During the investigation, officers from Crime Branch Unit 4 received reliable information about a gang involved in tampering with ATMs across Nagpur city. Based on this intelligence and a tip-off from informants, the police set up a trap and successfully apprehended two suspects: Satyaveer Kadhai Singh, 21, from Ibrahimpur, Uttar Pradesh, Naiyaz Ahmed Khan, 24, from Hazratganj, Uttar Pradesh.

Upon questioning, both suspects confessed to the theft at the ATM in the Tehsil area and admitted to being involved in a similar theft in the jurisdiction of Kotwali police station. The police recovered several items from the suspects, including mobile phones, tools used for tampering with ATMs, and Rs 300 in cash.

The accused have been handed over to Tehsil police for further investigation and legal proceedings. The arrests were made under the supervision of senior police officers and involved coordinated efforts by Crime Branch Unit 4.
