Nagpur Cyber Police Scan 3,500 Social Media Accounts After Mahal Violence

Nagpur, India: Nagpur Cyber Police have taken strong action to stop the spread of false information online after the recent violence in Mahal. They have checked over 3,500 social media accounts and identified 100 people who posted provocative content in the last 24 hours. These individuals’ details have been sent to local police stations, and legal action will be taken under the IT Act and other laws related to rioting.
The violence started on Monday, March 17 and resulted in one of Nagpur’s worst communal clashes in recent years.
Police found that several social media accounts from outside Maharashtra were involved in spreading provocative content. These external accounts may have played a key role in increasing tensions and encouraging violence. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Lohit Matani confirmed that police are tracking these accounts and will take strict action against those responsible.
Nagpur Police Commissioner Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal highlighted how social media contributed to the violence by spreading inflammatory videos and posts. Nagpur Guardian Minister Chandrashekar Bawankule also called for strict action against those spreading false and harmful content.
Police are continuing to monitor social media closely and have urged people to check information before sharing it. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities are committed to punishing those responsible for spreading unrest.
