Nagpur Enjoys Cool Weather After Heatwave, More Rain Expected Today

Nagpur, India: The city got a big relief from the summer heat on Thursday as rains and cool winds brought the temperature down to 26.6°C – the lowest in April in the last 10 years. Just a few days ago, Nagpur was burning at 40.6°C.

The weather changed suddenly, with cloudy skies, light rain, and strong winds. People enjoyed the cooler day, which felt like old Bengaluru weather. According to the weather office (IMD), the lowest temperature was 21.6°C at Sonegaon Airport.

Many parts of the city got light rain, and schoolchildren were seen with umbrellas and raincoats in the morning. But the rain also caused some trouble. Power cuts were reported in many areas, and MSEDCL workers were busy fixing the electricity. A tree fell on Link Road in Sadar due to strong winds, and firemen had to clear it.

The city received 5 mm of rain between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm.

Dr Praveen Kumar from the Regional Meteorological Centre said the weather change was due to a low-pressure area over Vidarbha and a cyclonic circulation, which caused rain in many areas.

More rain is likely today (Friday). The weather office has warned of light to moderate rain with thunder, lightning, and strong winds up to 40 km/h in some parts of Vidarbha.

However, the cool weather won’t last long. From Saturday, the temperature is expected to rise again. On Thursday, Akola was the warmest in Vidarbha at 37.1°C, followed by Chandrapur and Washim at 35°C.

Buldhana was the coolest with 25.0°C, followed by Nagpur (26.6°C), Gondia (27.7°C), and Wardha (29.0°C). The lowest night temperature was 18.4°C in Bhandara, and the highest was 24.3°C in Brahmapuri. The humidity in Nagpur was 83% in the morning and 74% in the evening, making the day feel pleasant.
