Nagpur Faces Traffic Woes as Wardha Road Bridge Collapses After Heavy Rains

In a recent development, Nagpurians are grappling with worsening traffic conditions as the bridge over Nag River on Wardha Road, between Jhansi Rani Square and Panchsheel Talkies, collapsed due to heavy rains. This incident has prompted the local administration to close the route for traffic on both sides in the interest of safety. Traffic Department Implements Road Closure and Diversion The Nagpur City Police's traffic department has taken immediate action in response to the bridge collapse. On Saturday evening, they issued a formal notification, announcing the closure of traffic on both sides of the road until the construction of a new bridge is completed. As a result of the road closure, commuters seeking to travel from Jhansi Rani Square to Panchsheel Square have been advised to take an alternative route. They can proceed by taking a left turn towards Munje Square, Anand Talkies, and then pass under the new RUB to reach Sardar Patel Square via Mokshadham Road. Alternatively, motorists can opt to take a right turn from Jhansi Rani Square, heading towards Alankar Square, and then left towards Kachipura Square, eventually reaching Lokmat Square. For those traveling from Panchsheel Square to Jhansi Rani Square, the diversion route has also been outlined. Motorists are instructed to take a left turn from Lokmat Square onto Kachipura Road, then continue towards Alankar Square, and finally make a right turn towards Jhansi Rani Square. Uncertain Timeline for Bridge Reconstruction While the traffic department has taken steps to address the immediate traffic issues caused by the bridge collapse, concerns remain about the timeline for constructing a new bridge. Past experiences suggest that Nagpur residents may have to endure traffic disruptions for an extended period, possibly spanning two to three years. DCP Chetna Tidke has indicated that the police have issued notifications and are in contact with the relevant agency responsible for bridge construction.
