Nagpur's SUV at Versova Beach Kills Man, Injures other; Two Arrested

Nagpur, India:  In a tragic incident early Monday morning, a 36-year-old man lost his life, and another was injured when a speeding SUV ran over them while they were asleep at Versova Beach in Mumbai. The police have arrested two men, including one from Nagpur, on charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Both suspects fled the scene without offering help to the injured or informing the authorities.

The victim, Ganesh Vikram Yadav, a resident of the Sagar Kutir area and an autorickshaw driver, had decided to escape the heat by sleeping on Andheri-Versova Beach on Sunday night. He was accompanied by his friend, Bablu Shrivastava, a delivery boy from Andheri.

According to Shrivastava, the incident occurred around 5:45 AM, a jeep with a licensed number plate MH 31 FE 3033 drove on the beach and ran over Yadav's face, fatally crushing, and his friend beside succmbed injuries. Upon learning of the accident, Yadav’s brother, Bajrangi Yadav, rushed to the scene and transported both victims to Cooper Hospital in an autorickshaw. Unfortunately, Ganesh Yadav was pronounced dead on arrival.

The police swiftly launched an investigation and registered an FIR based on Shrivastava’s statement. With the help of eyewitness accounts, authorities traced and arrested the two suspects: Nikhil Dilip Jawate, 34, from Nagpur, and Shubham Ashok Dongre, 33, from Airoli, Navi Mumbai. The suspects’ blood samples have been sent for testing to determine if they were intoxicated at the time of the incident. 

This incident highlights the dangers of reckless driving and the importance of taking responsibility in the aftermath of an accident. The investigation is ongoing.
