Nagpur Participate in Mass Cleanliness Drive, Promoting 'Swachhta Hi Seva'
Nagpur, India: To make Nagpur a clean, green, and healthy city, citizens came together on Sunday for a large-scale cleanliness drive under the 'Swachhta Hi Seva' (Cleanliness is Service) campaign. Organized by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), the event saw overwhelming participation from locals who volunteered their time and effort to clean various areas of the city.
Led by Municipal Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Chaudhary and Additional Commissioners Mrs. Anchal Goyal and Mr. Ajay Charathankar, the initiative was part of the Central Government’s nationwide campaign for cleanliness. Hundreds of residents across all ten municipal zones, supported by various NGOs, contributed to the drive through voluntary labour (shramdaan).
Mrs. Anchal Goyal actively participated in the cleanup efforts by sweeping the streets around Shantinagar MHADA Colony in the Satranjipura zone and interacting with the residents, encouraging them to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings. Senior officials, assistant commissioners, executive engineers, and zonal sanitation officers were also involved, working alongside citizens to clean the streets.
Several NGOs, including Ploggers Group, Green Vigil Foundation, Tejaswini Leaders Club, and King Cobra Organization, played key roles in the drive. Different zones of the city were cleaned, including areas like the jail complex in Laxminagar, Maharajbagh Chowk to Library Cement Road in Dharampeth, and Chhota Tajbagh in Nehru Nagar, among others. The volunteers removed fallen leaves, branches, and debris, ensuring the streets were left spotless.
The NMC, along with sanitation brand ambassadors and officers, also led awareness efforts to prevent littering and promote long-term cleanliness. The campaign received enthusiastic support from residents, students, and local organizations, highlighting the collective effort toward creating a cleaner and greener Nagpur.
