Nagpur Police Bust Major Beef Smuggling Operation, Seize 15 Tonnes
Nagpur, India: Yashodhara Nagar Police in an early Tuesday morning operation, busted a beef smuggling, police seized about 15 tonnes of beef valued at approximately ₹15 lakh which was illegally transported into the city. The police also confiscated the truck (MH-34/AB-9358) involved in the operation, which is worth around ₹12 lakh.
The driver, Sayyed Harun Sayyed Sarid (38), and the cleaner, Sameer Shabbir Khan (37), both residents of Juni Kamptee, were arrested for their roles in the illegal transport. Two other suspects, Rizwan Haji (the truck owner) and Jiya Qureshi (the consignment owner), are currently absconding.
The police, led by Senior Inspector Ramesh Khune and Inspector (Crime) Suhas Raut, received a tip-off while patrolling the Yashodhara Nagar area about a truck carrying a large quantity of beef from Kamptee to Hyderabad. Under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone V) Niketan Kadan, the team intercepted the truck around 1:45 AM in front of Sharda Company near Automotive Square on Kamptee Road.
Upon checking the vehicle, officers discovered a large amount of beef, which was later confirmed by forensic experts. The arrested individuals are facing charges under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, and the Motor Vehicle Act.
Police are now searching for the absconding suspects and are investigating the source of the beef along with other possible individuals involved in the smuggling operation.
