Nagpur Police Crack Down on Battery Theft Ring; 2 Suspects in Custody
Nagpur, India: In a successful operation, the Pachpavli Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the theft of vehicle batteries. The incident occurred between July 9 and July 10, 2024, when the complainant, Abhijeet Singh Manjit Singh Bhatia, parked and locked his Tata S vehicle (Registration No. MH 49 AT 2987) at Khalsa Enterprises, Vaishali Nagar, Nagpur. Upon returning, he discovered that two batteries, valued at ₹9,000, had been stolen.
Following the complaint, Pachpavli Police Station registered a case under Section 379 of the IPC against unidentified individuals. The police conducted a thorough investigation, utilizing technical analysis to identify the suspects. A trap was set, leading to the arrest of Sheikh Nisbat Niyaz Ahmed, aged 19, from Tekadi, Pachpavli; Sohail Khan Tajamul Khan, aged 21, from Majri, Parvati Nagar, Kalamna.
During interrogation, both suspects confessed to the theft. The police recovered the stolen batteries, along with an additional five batteries stolen from other locations, and an auto rickshaw used in the crime. The total value of the recovered items is estimated at ₹1,24,500.
The arrest and recovery operation was led by Police Deputy Commissioner Nimitt Goyal, with significant contributions from Police Commissioner Anita More and other officers including Baburao Raut, Somvanshi, Imran Sheikh, Romesh Menewar, Rahul Chikate, Gagan Yadav, Santosh Shendre, Padmakar Uke, and Mahendra Selukar. The investigation is ongoing, with the suspects currently in custody.
