Nagpur Police Crack Down on Cricket Betting Ahead of India vs England T20 Semi-final in Wathoda

Nagpur, June 28, 2024: Ahead of the highly anticipated T20 World Cup 2024 semi-final between India and England, Nagpur's Unit 3 Crime Branch conducted a successful raid in Wathoda, uncovering an illegal cricket betting operation. Acting on a tip-off, led by PI Mukund Thakre, the authorities raided a residence in Kolhe Housing Society, Tarodi.

During the operation, four bookies were apprehended, identified as Rakesh alias Pintu Moreshwar Bhaik, Arvind Haribhau Mugdal, Vishal Keshav Solanke, and Roshan Eknath Nandanwar. The raid yielded items worth Rs 6.38 lakh, including 28 mobile phones, two laptops, a printer, and other betting materials.

The arrested individuals have been charged under Sections 4 and 5 of the Maharashtra Prevention of Gambling Act and were taken to Wathoda Police Station for further legal proceedings. The investigation remains ongoing under the supervision of Commissioner of Police Dr. Ravinder Singhal, DCP (Crime) Nimit Goyal, and ACP Crime.

This crackdown underscores Nagpur Police's commitment to combating illegal gambling activities surrounding major sporting events.
