Nagpur Police Launches Operation Thunder to Combat Drug Crimes

In a significant move to make Nagpur a drug-free city, the Nagpur Police have initiated Operation Thunder under the leadership of Police Commissioner Ravindra Kumar Singh. The operation aims to take strict action against individuals involved in drug sales, possession, and consumption, in a bid to curb criminal activities and foster a sense of security among residents.

Operation Thunder commenced during the early hours of October 18, 2024, running from 12:00 AM to 6:00 AM. The operation involved a comprehensive crackdown on drug-related offenders across the city. Special teams were formed with officers from various police stations, targeting criminals linked to drug offences recorded from 2020 to 2024.

During the operation, police teams visited the homes of suspects, conducted searches, and checked for active warrants. The investigation revealed that some suspects had passed away, while others were incarcerated or had relocated. Authorities are actively seeking out these individuals as part of their ongoing efforts.

In total, 153 suspects were brought to the Nagpur Crime Branch office for further investigation, where their details were recorded. Police checked their mobile phones to trace connections and gather evidence related to ongoing drug activities. The information is being updated in the crime database to ensure quick access to their criminal histories in case of future offences.

This operation aligns with Commissioner Singh's vision of achieving a drug-free Nagpur. The initiative is part of ongoing efforts that have seen significant drug-related arrests and seizures from January 1 to September 30, 2024.

Operation Thunder is expected to continue, reinforcing the police's commitment to tackling drug-related issues and enhancing community safety in Nagpur.
