Nagpur Police on High Alert with 66 Rallies and 201 Temples Marked for Hanuman Jayanti

Nagpur, India: As Hanuman Jayanti draws near, Nagpur has been placed under a tight security blanket, with police leaving no stone unturned to ensure a peaceful and well-regulated celebration. The move comes in the backdrop of recent unrest in parts of the city, prompting authorities to adopt a proactive approach.

This year, celebrations include events at 201 temples and 66 processions, including the historic rally from Raja Baksha Temple near Medical Square, scheduled for Saturday. Starting Thursday, senior police officials have begun inspecting the main procession routes and key junctions to plan security arrangements in detail.

To maintain law and order, over 3,000 police personnel will be deployed across the city. They will be supported by two companies of the State Reserve Police Force (about 200 personnel), four platoons of Riot Control Police, 1,300 home guards, and additional staff from local police stations.

More than 120 sensitive locations will be under constant watch, with nearly 400 personnel assigned to guard them. Around 100 Quick Response Team (QRT) commandos will remain on standby at the control room for emergencies. Drone surveillance will also be used to monitor large gatherings and procession routes.

Police Commissioner Ravinder Singal held a meeting on Thursday with organisers of Hanuman Jayanti events, including temple authorities from major shrines. He appealed to them to celebrate the festival in a traditional and disciplined manner—discouraging loud DJ systems and unsafe bike rallies.

The Commissioner commended one of the organising groups for opting to replace DJ music with devotional songs and bhajans. As part of the security plan, officers at the ranks of ACPs and DCPs will lead special patrolling teams, known as 'striking forces', to keep watch throughout the day.

CP Singal has also directed the traffic department to ensure that all bike rallies strictly follow traffic rules. Senior inspectors have been instructed to make sure that each procession and event complies with the conditions under which permission was granted.

The police have urged all citizens to cooperate and celebrate with devotion, while maintaining peace and public order.
