Nagpur Police Raid Dance Bar Operating Illegally Near MIDC
Nagpur, India: Nagpur police conducted a late-night raid on a dance bar near the MIDC police station early Sunday, uncovering illegal activities involving obscene performances. Four women, including one from Navi Mumbai, were found dancing to popular songs while patrons showered them with cash.
The operation was led by Zonal DCP Lohit Matani, acting on the instructions of Police Commissioner Ravinder Singal and Joint CP Nisar Tamboli. The bar permitted only for live orchestra performances, was found to violate the Maharashtra Prohibition of Obscene Dance Act and the Protection of Dignity of Women Act, 2016. Additional charges under Section 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) were registered.
Officers in plain clothes entered the bar to witness the activities before the raid. They observed customers making lewd gestures toward the dancers, who collected cash directly from them. Police confiscated ₹37,500 in currency notes and seized CCTV footage from the venue for evidence.
DCP Matani’s team also raided a hookah parlour in Dharampeth and two eateries in Bajaj Nagar and Hingna, where liquor was being served without permission.
Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to strict action against violations, emphasizing the importance of maintaining law and order in the city.
