Nagpur Police Seize 440 Illegal Silencers in Campaign Against Noise Pollution
Nagpur, India: In a focused effort to tackle noise pollution and promote responsible driving, the Nagpur City Traffic Department conducted a special campaign against modified two-wheeler silencers from January 5 to 9. The initiative, led by Commissioner of Police Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Archit Chandak, targeted illegal after-market silencers causing loud noise and public distress, particularly among senior citizens.
The campaign resulted in the seizure of 440 illegal silencers, which were destroyed using a road-roller in a public demonstration at Samvidhan Square on Thursday. The event was attended by police officials, school students, and citizens to raise awareness about the impact of noise pollution.
Violators were fined under Sections 190(2) and 198 of the Motor Vehicles Act, with penalties amounting to ₹3,97,050. “This campaign is not only about enforcement but also about reducing the stress and anxiety caused by excessive noise,” said Dr. Singal. The involvement of school students during the campaign aimed to educate the youth about the consequences of such illegal modifications.
DCP Chandak added, “The silencers in the seized vehicles were replaced with original ones. We will continue strict action against those using, manufacturing, or selling modified silencers.”
Zone IV Police Crack Down on Illegal Liquor and Bike Modifications
In a separate drive as part of the Maharashtra Police Foundation Week-2025 celebrations, Zone IV Police destroyed 40 illegal motorcycle silencers and 1,580 bottles of country liquor on Tuesday at Wathoda Dumping Yard. These items were linked to 88 cases registered under the Prohibition Act within Zone IV’s jurisdiction.
The destruction was supervised by DCP Zone IV Rashmita Rao, along with ACP Ajni Vinayak Kote, Excise Inspector Raviraj Sonune, and senior police inspectors from Hudkeshwar, Ajni, and Beltarodi police stations. Officials emphasized the importance of enforcing liquor laws and ensuring public safety.
These coordinated campaigns reflect Nagpur Police’s commitment to addressing public grievances and maintaining order, highlighting the importance of collective efforts to create a safer and more peaceful city.
