Nagpur Police Seize Rs 1.35 Crore in Cash Amid Election Monitoring

Nagpur, India: In a breakthrough, Nagpur police seized Rs 1.35 crore in cash from a man during a routine vehicle check on Wednesday. The seizure took place as part of ongoing surveillance in the lead-up to the assembly elections.

The suspect, 42-year-old Sakir Khan Haji Nasir Khan, a resident of Yashodhara Nagar, was stopped while riding a bike by Tehsil police officers. Upon inspection, the police discovered a large sum of cash hidden in his possession. When questioned, Khan could not provide a clear explanation or produce any documents to justify the money.

With the election period intensifying, the police suspect the seized funds may be linked to hawala transactions. Khan, a driver by profession, is known to work for a person named Binny and has previously handled large sums of money for him. It is believed that the money was intended for illegal use during the election.

The police had received a tip-off about Khan transporting a substantial amount of cash, prompting them to set up a trap. The operation resulted in the seizure of not just the cash but also two vehicles involved.

Authorities have raised concerns about the flow of illegal money during the election period, and further investigation is underway. The police are currently probing who the intended recipient of the money was and its potential connection to the election process. Khan remains in custody as the investigation continues.
