Nagpur, India: Even though summer is months away, Vidarbha is already feeling the heat, with temperatures rising across Maharashtra. The effects of the El Niño phenomenon, which ended in July last year, continue to impact weather patterns across the country, raising concerns about changing climate trends.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the rising temperatures are due to the sun’s northward movement (Uttarayan). However, experts also point to climate change as a major factor behind the unusual weather conditions.

The Weather Department has predicted that maximum temperatures will remain above normal throughout this week and the next. On Monday, Brahmapuri recorded the highest temperature at 37.8°C, an unusual event for February. Similarly, Akola also saw temperatures crossing 37°C.

Nagpur City recorded its hottest day of the year so far, with temperatures reaching 35.6°C. This could be the hottest February day since 2006. The minimum temperature in Nagpur also remained high at 17.9°C, adding to the discomfort of residents.

Weather experts warn that there is no sign of relief, as temperatures are expected to remain high in the coming days, making it difficult for people to cope with the unusual February heat.
