Nagpur: Two Punjab Women Join Sex Racket to Fund Canada Dreams, Rescued from Hotel

Nagpur, India: Two women in their twenties from Punjab were rescued from a luxury hotel in Sadar Chhaoni late Friday night. They told police they had joined a high-profile sex racket to earn money for immigration to Canada.

One of the women, the daughter of a village sarpanch, said she needed money to pay bribes to an immigration agent. The other woman said she wanted to help pay for her brother’s immigration expenses. Despite the risks, both were determined to go abroad and told police that such agents are active in many cities across Punjab and North India.

Police said the sarpanch’s daughter came from a well-off family. Her brother works in the airline industry, and her sister is a government teacher. The second woman shared a heartbreaking story—she was married at 16, became a young mother, and was later abandoned by her husband.

These two were among four women rescued during the police raid. Three were from Punjab and one from Chhattisgarh. All of them have been sent to government shelter homes in the city.

The police arrested hotel owner Chetan Chakole and his employee Yugant Durge. Durge, a third-year polytechnic student, said he took the job to earn some extra money. Chakole allegedly rented rooms to clients sent by the sex racket, whose agents flew women into the city.

Inspector Kavita Isarkar of the Social Service Branch led the raid, which uncovered a large inter-state prostitution network that operated online. Agents like Rahul Ghatole and Deepak, both named as co-accused, brought in women from different states through local contacts.

The women were flown into Nagpur, housed in hotels, and made to serve clients for ₹5,000 an hour. Police said the agents kept a large share of the money and also paid for the women’s travel and accommodation.
