Nagpur Violence: Injured Man Dies During Treatment at IGGMCH

Nagpur, India: Irfan Ansari, a 40-year-old man who was injured during the recent violence in Nagpur, died on Saturday while receiving treatment at Indira Gandhi Government Medical College & Hospital (IGGMCH).

Hospital officials confirmed that Ansari passed away at 1:20 pm. He had been admitted with serious head injuries and a fractured leg.

Ansari, a welder by profession, had left home around 11 pm on Monday to catch a train to Itarsi from Nagpur railway station, which was one of the areas affected by the violence. His family was informed by the hospital that he had been admitted after an accident.

The violence erupted on March 17 after rumours spread that a “chadar” with holy inscriptions was burnt during protests led by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), demanding the removal of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb’s tomb in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

Ansari’s brother, Imran, said that Irfan was being treated in the ICU and was on oxygen support. The family is still unaware of what exactly happened on his way to the station.
