Nagpur: Youth Shot Dead in Godhni Market, Police Suspect Gang Rivalry

Nagpur, India: A 25-year-old man was shot dead and two others injured after a group of miscreants opened fire at the crowded weekly market in Prakash Nagar, Godhni, late on Thursday night. The incident sparked panic in the area, prompting immediate police action and heavy deployment to maintain law and order.
According to police, the firing took place around 9:30 pm near Govind Lawn, under the limits of Mankapur police station. Four men arrived on motorcycles, reportedly searching for a man named Shahrukh. They began abusing locals and asking about his whereabouts. Suddenly, one of them pulled out a country-made pistol and started firing in the middle of the market.
A bullet hit a youth named Sohail, leaving him critically injured. Another person, a bystander, sustained a minor injury when a bullet grazed his neck. Both were rushed to Mayo Hospital, where doctors declared Sohail dead.
Mankapur police arrived swiftly at the scene and recovered a live cartridge from the area. Within hours, three suspects were apprehended, one of whom was injured and is currently under treatment in hospital.
Senior officers from Mankapur police station reached the spot to handle the tense situation. The incident led to unrest in the locality, with angry youths raising slogans and reportedly attempting to vandalise vehicles. Police managed to disperse the crowd and bring the situation under control.
Initial investigations suggest that the firing may be linked to disputes over illegal activities. A detailed probe is currently underway.
