Nagpur, India- Facing significant opposition from farmers, the Maharashtra government has decided to stop land acquisition for the Nagpur-Goa Shaktipeeth Expressway. This decision comes in response to extensive protests by the farming community, who have opposed the project, fearing loss of livelihood and inadequate compensation.
Senior minister Chandrakant Patil confirmed the government's decision, stating, "The issue is over," signaling an end to the current land acquisition efforts. The move is a response to the pressure from farmers who have been voicing their concerns over the past few months.
The decision by the Shiv Sena-BJP-NCP government follows their disappointing performance in the recent Lok Sabha elections, where the ruling alliance did not fare as well as expected.
