Dunki in Real Life: Nagpur's Harpreet Lalia Shares His Kidnapping Story After Returning

Nagpur, India: Harpreet Singh Lalia, a 33-year-old from Nagpur, was deported from the United States on Wednesday after facing a tough ordeal. Lalia was one of 104 deported people brought back to India on a U.S. military plane. He shared how he was kidnapped by a mafia in the U.S. who demanded money for his release.

Lalia said he originally planned to go to Canada but was tricked by his agent and ended up in the U.S. He started his journey from Nagpur with a Canadian visa, but after being stopped in Abu Dhabi, he returned to New Delhi. He then travelled to Egypt, and Guatemala, and finally reached the Mexico-U.S. border. The whole trip cost him around Rs 50 lakh, which he funded with a loan and money from friends and selling some furniture.

Throughout his journey, Lalia said he was kept in handcuffs and shackles, only being freed when the plane landed in Amritsar.

The flight also brought back people from other states, including 33 from Haryana, 33 from Gujarat, 30 from Punjab, three from Maharashtra, three from Uttar Pradesh, and two from Chandigarh. After landing, the deportees were questioned by police and intelligence agencies before being sent back to their homes under security.
