Nagpur's Monsoon Rainfall Begins with 58.8 mm Rainfall in 36 Hours and Storms
Nagpur, India- Nagpur experienced its first significant monsoon rain of the season on Wednesday, with moderate rain, thunderstorms, and lightning across most parts of the city. Residents, who had been enduring high humidity, were eagerly awaiting this rain.
A low-pressure area over south Odisha and a related cyclonic circulation have moved to south Chhattisgarh near Vidarbha. This has activated monsoon rains across Vidarbha, and similar weather is expected to continue until July 19, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
In the last 36 hours, Nagpur received 58.8 mm of rain, with 19 mm on Wednesday alone. Bhandara got 59 mm of rain in the same period, including 56 mm on Wednesday. Despite this, Nagpur, Bhandara, and Gondia districts still have a rainfall deficit. Since June 1, Nagpur has received 277.1 mm of rain, which is 20% less than the normal 345.3 mm. Bhandara has a 37% rainfall deficit, with 241.1 mm of rain compared to the normal 381.4 mm.
Gondia has a 32% deficit, with 287.3 mm of rain instead of the normal 421.3 mm. In the last 36 hours, Brahmapuri received the most rain in Vidarbha with 117 mm, followed by Akola (49.9 mm), Amravati (11 mm), Chandrapur (17.8 mm), Gadchiroli (27.6 mm), Gondia (8.2 mm), Wardha (66.8 mm), Yavatmal (6.4 mm), and Buldhana (3 mm). Akola, Buldhana, Washim, and Yavatmal have received excess rain so far, while other areas have received normal rain.
