Nagpur's MSEDCL Meter Readers Announce Strike from February 1
Nagpur, India: Members of the MSEDCL Meter Reader and Contractual Workers' Sanghatana have announced a strike beginning on February 1, citing unmet demands despite repeated efforts to engage with authorities.
Sanghatana president Ramesh Jangle said that workers, who are responsible for reading electric meters and distributing bills, have presented their grievances through various representations, but no concrete steps have been taken to resolve them. He mentioned that earlier protests during the monsoon and winter sessions, as well as talks with the energy minister, did not lead to action.
The workers' key demands include job security until the age of 60, allowance provisions, pay fixation, and opportunities for outsourcing meter reader posts. The Sanghatana has urged authorities to address these issues promptly to avoid disruption of services.
