Nagpur's Young Chess Champion Raunak Sadhwani Impresses at Summer Classic 2023
A remarkable talent from Nagpur, 17-year-old Indian Grandmaster Raunak Sadhwani, has once again amazed the world with his impressive skills at the prestigious Summer Classic 2023. The event, hosted by the famous St. Louis Chess Club in the USA, brought together 10 top players for an exciting tournament.
Sadhwani, already known for his talent, secured an impressive second place in the tough competition. This comes after his recent victory at the Serbia Masters, which caught the attention of the St. Louis Chess Club and earned him an invitation to the Summer Classic 2023. He played nine rounds and scored 5.5 points with three wins, five draws, and one loss.
Sadhwani's great performance earned him a rating of 2688, showing his skills on the board. He gained 8 points in the tournament, showing he's among the best chess players globally.
His journey in the tournament started with draws against strong players like John M. Burke and Aram Hakobyan. He then drew with US Junior champion Abhimanyu Mishra and won against players like Dariusz Swiercz and V Pranav.
As the rounds went on, Sadhwani's skills stayed strong. He drew against Benjamin Bok and won against Nyzhnyk Illya, a strong player with an Elo rating of 2642. He secured another draw in the last round against Sasikiran Krishnan, earning him the second position in the tournament.
Talking about his performance, Sadhwani said, "Being consistent is important in sports. I'm happy with my performance and will keep working hard for upcoming tournaments."
