Nagpur-Wardha Railway Project Nears Completion, Aims to Decongest Mumbai-Howrah Route
The work for the third and fourth railway lines between Nagpur and Wardha, via Ajni and Seloo Road, is in its final phase, with only a 17km stretch remaining to be laid. The project, estimated at Rs 540 crore, is expected to considerably reduce travel time and ease congestion on the Mumbai-Howrah route.
Authorities from the Nagpur division of Central Railway have acquired more than 99% of the 37 hectares of land required for the project. The 19.33km stretch between But Bori-Borkhedi-Sindi has been completed, and the 42.40km stretch between Ajni-Buti Bori-Sindi-Seloo is nearing completion, with plans for commissioning it by the year-end.
Senior divisional commercial manager Ashutosh Shrivastava highlights that the addition of the third and fourth lines will boost train movement between Nagpur and Wardha. This expansion will address the bottleneck that occurs between Nagpur and Wardha, despite the bi-directional line between Sewagram-Yenor-Nagri, resulting in delays for both passenger and goods trains.
Shrivastava further mentions that work on certain blocks, including Sindi-Tuljapur, Tuljapur-Seloo Road, and Seloo Road-Sewagram, will be initiated soon. The entire project is expected to be completed within a year's time, facilitating smoother and more efficient train operations in the region.
Once completed, the Nagpur-Wardha railway project will not only help decongest the Mumbai-Howrah route but also significantly reduce travel time for passengers. The improved rail connectivity between Nagpur and Wardha will enhance transportation efficiency and contribute to the overall development of the region.
