Naik Police Constable Prevents Alleged Exploitation of Woman in Nagpur
Nagpur, India: In a quick and decisive action, a Naik Police Constable (NPC) prevented the alleged exploitation of a young woman at a hotel in the Rana Pratap Nagar area on November 4. Acting on a tip-off from a local social worker, the constable's prompt intervention stopped what authorities believe could have been a dangerous situation.
It was later determined that the relationship was consensual. Police sources report that the incident began when a local social worker, Govind Dongre, alerted the NPC about a woman dressed in modern clothing who had been seen wandering near Mokha Tower in Trimurti Nagar. Govind raised concerns that the woman, who appeared mentally unstable, might become a target for criminal elements.
Following the tip, the NPC, along with Govind, began observing the woman's movements. They saw her engaging with a group of men near a wine shop, and shortly after, two young men approached her. One of them gave her a ride on his scooter but later returned her to the same spot.
Soon after, another man took her to a nearby OYO hotel, where they checked into a room. After obtaining approval from his superiors to take action, the vigilant NPC called for backup from the police control room, and with additional support, raided the hotel room.
Inside, the man was found with the woman, who had already been given beer. The police swiftly arrested both individuals, while four other men, suspected of being part of the alleged scheme, managed to flee.
When questioned by the police, the woman admitted that she had willingly gone to the hotel room with the man, contradicting earlier allegations of exploitation.
Senior Inspector Mahesh Sangle of the Rana Pratap Nagar Police confirmed the woman's account, stating that after speaking with her and her family, it was concluded to be a consensual matter, and no further action was taken.
The incident attracted significant attention after a video of the woman and the men started circulating online, leading the media to seek clarification. Initially, the police dismissed the rumors, labeling them as ‘fake news.’
However, additional investigations revealed that the woman's consent played a crucial role in the decision not to file criminal charges. While the police have affirmed her voluntary involvement, the case underscores ongoing concerns about the safety and welfare of vulnerable individuals in public areas.
