NDS Fines ₹286,000 in Public Cleanliness Campaign
Nagpur, India: The NDS (Nuisance Detection Squad) is taking stronger action to keep public areas clean. On November 4, they caught 119 people for offenses such as urinating, littering, spitting, and using thin plastic bags, fining them a total of ₹286,000.
A total of ₹10,800 was collected in fines from 27 street vendors, including those with handcarts, stalls, paan kiosks, hawkers, and vegetable sellers, for dumping litter in public places.
₹800 in fines was collected in 8 cases for dumping waste on public roads, footpaths, and open spaces. Shopkeepers were fined ₹2,400 in 6 cases for throwing rubbish in public areas. Additionally, ₹4,000 was collected in 2 cases involving malls, cafes, hotels, cinema halls, marriage halls, and caterers for similar violations.
The squad, led by NDS chief Veersen Tambe, took action in 37 cases involving temporary structures such as tents and stages obstructing roads, imposing fines totaling ₹40,000. Additionally, ₹1,000 fines were levied for tying animals in public areas, and ₹10,000 fines were issued to medical professionals for improperly disposing of biomedical waste with regular trash.
The drive also targeted various areas for waste management violations. Fines included ₹5,000 for hotels discarding waste in Dharampeth, ₹5,000 for plastic bag use in Godhni (Dhantoli), ₹10,000 for improper organic waste disposal in Nehru Nagar, ₹5,000 for plastic bag use in Gandhibagh and Satrangipura, and ₹25,000 for dumping rubbish on the road in Lakadganj.
