Neeraj Chopra and coach Bartonietz are expected to part ways
After five years of collaboration, the incredibly successful relationship between German coach Klaus Bartonietz and star Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra is about to come to an end.
Bartonietz, who is 75 years old, broke up with Chopra, citing his age and obligations to his family. Since 2019, Chopra, 26, has worked with Bartonietz, a biomechanics specialist who also serves as Chopra's coach.
Initially hired as a biomechanics specialist, the German assumed coaching duties over Chopra following Uwe Hohn's fallout with the AFI and the Sports Authority of India.
Under Bartonietz, Chopra won gold in the Olympics in Tokyo, silver at the Paris Games, and gold medals at the Asian Games in addition to becoming world champion and Diamond League champion.
