New Kamptee Police Arrest Man for Illegal Sand Mining, Seize ₹6.01 Lakh Goods

Nagpur, India: New Kamptee Police arrested a 50-year-old man for illegal sand mining and seized goods worth ₹6.01 lakh, including a vehicle loaded with sand.  

The arrest occurred on March 20 at around 2:40 AM when police patrolling the Unagaon-Sonegaon road stopped a suspicious Mahindra Bolero pickup (MH 40 CD 2610). The driver, Kanthiram Yadav Meshram, failed to provide valid documents for the sand being transported. During questioning, he admitted to illegally extracting sand from the Kanhan River with the help of his accomplice, Ramesh Pardhi, who is currently absconding.  

The police seized the vehicle, sand, and excavation tools. Based on a complaint by police personnel Shyam Fokmare, a case was registered under Sections 303(2) and 3(5) of the relevant mining laws. Efforts are ongoing to locate the absconding accused, and further investigation is underway.
