New Traffic Plan Eases Congestion Between Morris College Square and Ajni Square

Nagpur, India: Traffic is now smoother between Morris College Square and Ajni Square, thanks to a new traffic management system introduced by the Nagpur Traffic Police. The route, which used to be filled with evening traffic jams, now takes just five minutes to travel, compared to the previous 30-minute delays caused by heavy congestion at Shahid Gowari Flyover, Rahate Colony Square, and Kriplani Square.

The changes are part of an experimental traffic plan led by newly appointed DCP Traffic, Archit Chandak. He reported positive feedback from citizens, who are pleased with the reduced travel time. Previously, motorists would face significant delays at two major signals—Rahate Colony Square and Kriplani Square—causing long waits, especially during rush hours.

To improve the situation, right turns at key intersections between Rahate Colony Square and Kriplani Square have been temporarily banned from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm. DCP Chandak noted that 80% of the traffic on this route moves straight, with only 20% needing to make right turns or U-turns. The police have also extended signal times at Morris College T-point and Ajni Square by 10 seconds, allowing faster movement through the intersections.

While the changes have been beneficial for most drivers, a small number have faced inconveniences due to the right-turn restrictions. To assist these drivers, U-turns are now allowed 200 meters ahead of Kriplani Square, near the Central Jail. During peak hours, extra traffic police have been deployed to ensure smooth management of the new system.

Future Enhancements and Public Feedback

DCP Chandak announced plans to install information boards along the route to keep commuters updated on traffic conditions and changes. He also urged citizens to share feedback and suggestions with the Sitabuldi Traffic Zone office to help further improve the system.

New U-turns on Jail Road

In addition, U-turns have been introduced on Jail Road to ease congestion at Ajni Square. Barricades at two points have been removed, allowing vehicles from Kriplani Square to make U-turns and reducing traffic density at Ajni Square.

The new traffic system has significantly reduced congestion, and with future improvements and public input, it is expected to further enhance the commuting experience in the city.
