Nithya Sre Sivan overcomes her childhood mockery, achieving success
Para shuttler Nithya Sre Sivan is chasing her greatest dream of winning a medal in the 2016 Paris Paralympics on debut after winning more than thirty-six international medals, including a silver and a bronze at the World Championships.
Even in her school days, Nithya was teased mercilessly for her little stature, which nearly destroyed her will to live. However, those same people today recognise her achievement as she has won multiple medals for her native India.
Nithya, 19, intends to go for a gold medal in the Paralympic Games in Paris. She will compete in the SL6 singles division as well as the mixed doubles division partnering Sivarajan Solaimalai.
"I had moved to Lucknow even before I took home a silver and a bronze medal at this year's BWF World Championships in May in Thailand. I haven't seen my family since February," Nithya remarked.
Nithya, a double bronze medallist in the Asian Para Games in Hangzhou in 2023, claimed she was well-prepared to take on the Chinese shuttlers, who will be fierce competitors in the Paralympics in Paris. Chief coach of the Indian para-badminton squad Gaurav Khanna is also impressed with Nithya's capacity to succeed at the highest level.
