Gadkari has previously won the Nagpur seat in the last two Lok Sabha elections. In 2014, he defeated seven-time MP Vilas Muttemwar by a margin of 2.84 lakh votes. In 2019, he triumphed over the current Congress Maharashtra unit chief Nana Patole.
The exit poll, which surveyed 5.8 lakh respondents across all 543 parliamentary constituencies, shows a favourable outcome for BJP candidate and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari in Maharashtra's Nagpur Lok Sabha seat.
The elections for the 18th Lok Sabha took place in Nagpur on April 19 during the first phase. Throughout the campaign, the BJP emphasized Nagpur's development under the leadership of Gadkari and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and local MLA Devendra Fadnavis.
Gadkari benefits from strong support from the RSS, a significant influence in this constituency.
Traditionally, Nagpur has been a Congress bastion since the first election in 1951, consistently voting for the party until 2009, with only two exceptions when the Forward Bloc and BJP won the seat.
The exit poll also predicted that the BJP-led NDA will win 28-32 of the 48 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra, while the INDIA bloc, which includes Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP (Sharad Pawar), is expected to secure 16-20 seats.
