Nitin Gadkari Resumes Duties, Focuses on Naag River Project

Nagpur, India- Union Minister Nitin Gadkari resumed his duties on Tuesday, reviewing the pending projects focusing on the Naag River project. This meeting, was at Ravi Bhavan, the first since Gadkari reassumed his role as the Minister of Road and Transport in the Government of India. After being briefed by officials, Gadkari instructed the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA) to expedite the river cleaning project collaboratively. The Central Government has already sanctioned the Rs 2,434 crore project aimed at Nag River to control Pollution. Despite this, NMC has yet to finalize the Project Consultant responsible for planning and supervising this project. Gadkari emphasized the importance of working on pollution to restore the city's signature river to its original state.
The Union Minister reviewed the proposed renewal of the city's underground sewage network. The new trunk lines and the pollution abatement of the Naag River are interconnected, as the old lines are deeply embedded and damaged in many areas. The new sewerage lines will direct grey water to sewerage treatment plants (STPs) along the Naag River, ensuring only treated water enters the river, thus eliminating foul odours. Gadkari urged all city agencies to resolve overlapping clearance issues to commence the Naag River project. He also inquired about the progress on drinking water pipelines and the construction of overhead water tanks. The Amrut Yojana, implemented by NMC, aims to cover the entire city with a piped water network. Additionally, Gadkari reviewed the Orange City Street development project and provided necessary instructions, with civic body officials updating him on auctioned plots and future development plans.
Gadkari also sought an update on the relocation of wholesale markets to a new site near Kalamna. Officials from the Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) reported that the design for the new markets, including Loha Oli, Dahi Bazar, Poha Oli, Anaz Bazar, Cotton Market, Santra Market, and Netaji Market, is nearing completion. The redevelopment plan for Dik Clinic was also presented. Furthermore, the land acquisition for the development of Ramji Pahelwan Road, LIC Square landing of Kamptee Road fly-over, and Old Bhandara Road is progressing. Gadkari directed officials to rehabilitate all shopkeepers displaced from Railway Station Road. MLA Mohan Mate, District Collector Dr. Vipin Itankar, Maha Metro Managing Director Shravan Hardikar, Municipal Commissioner Dr. Abhijeet Chaudhari, MSIDC Managing Director Dr. Brijesh Dixit, PWD Chief Engineer Dinesh Nandanwar, and other officials attended the meeting.
