Nitin Gadkari Urges Maharashtra Government to Appoint Nagpur District Collector for MIHAN Development
On Saturday, Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari revealed that he has requested the Maharashtra government to appoint the Nagpur District Collector as the Joint Managing Director of MIHAN. MIHAN, which stands for Multi-Modal International Cargo Hub and Airport at Nagpur, is an airport-cum-special economic zone (SEZ) and a prominent project of the Maharashtra Airport Development Corporation (MADC). Gadkari emphasized the importance of expediting the development of MIHAN, describing it as the growth engine for Nagpur and the Vidarbha region.
During an event, Gadkari highlighted the significance of MIHAN for the progress and development of Nagpur and the Vidarbha region. As a multi-modal international cargo hub and airport, MIHAN plays a vital role in promoting trade and economic activities in the area. The project aims to enhance connectivity and create opportunities for growth and employment.
Gadkari stated that he has approached the Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde, and the Deputy Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, to appoint the Nagpur District Collector as the Joint Managing Director of MIHAN. This move is expected to facilitate the expeditious development of the project. The involvement of the District Collector will likely bring administrative expertise and local knowledge to ensure the smooth progress of MIHAN.
In addition to appointing the Nagpur District Collector, the state government has plans to expand the MIHAN SEZ. This expansion is aimed at further boosting economic activities and attracting investments in the region. The development of MIHAN SEZ is expected to create a significant number of employment opportunities, with Nitin Gadkari projecting that it will have one lakh (100,000) employees by 2024.
To improve connectivity and reduce travel time to the Butibori SEZ, plans are underway to upgrade infrastructure facilities in Nagpur. The government intends to invest in enhancing transportation and other necessary amenities, ensuring seamless accessibility to the industrial zones in the area. These efforts will contribute to the overall development and growth of Nagpur and its surrounding regions, promoting industrialization and economic prosperity.
