NMC Collects ₹44,500 in Fines for Public Littering and Other Violation
Nagpur, India: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s (NMC) Nuisance Detection Squad has taken strict action against various forms of public nuisances, registering 72 cases and collecting fines totalling ₹44,500 on Friday. The initiative aims to curb activities like public urination, littering, spitting, and the use of banned plastic bags.
Key Offenses and Fines:
- 1. Public Urination and Open Defecation: 5 cases were registered, resulting in ₹2,500 in fines.
- 2. Unhygienic Conditions by Vendors: 20 cases of unhygienic surroundings by street vendors, stalls, and hawkers were fined ₹8,000.
- 3. Littering by Individuals: 3 cases resulted in fines of ₹300.
- 4. Littering by Shopkeepers: 1 case was registered, with ₹400 fined.
- 5. Improper Waste Disposal by Establishments: 2 cases, involving hotels and commercial entities, led to fines of ₹4,000.
- 6. Road Obstructions: 11 cases of unauthorized structures or road closures were fined ₹18,500.
- 7. Improper Waste Disposal by Workshops: 1 case resulted in a ₹1,000 fine.
- 8. Other Public Nuisances: 24 cases involving individuals and 5 cases involving institutions brought in fines of ₹4,800 and ₹5,000, respectively.
The operation was spearheaded by Veersen Tambe, Chief of the Nuisance Detection Squad, to promote public hygiene and order in Nagpur.

Illegal Advertising:
- Anushka Opticals in Dharampeth Zone was fined ₹10,000 for placing banners on electric poles without approval.
- Guru Govind Singh Marketing in Gandhibagh Zone faced a ₹5,000 fine for similar violations.

- Gajraj Heights was fined ₹5,000 for damaging municipal chambers during construction.

Improper Waste Disposal:
- The Fuel Blend was fined ₹5,000 for illegal disposal of hotel waste.

Plastic Bag Violations:
- Krishna Sonpapdi in Satranjipura Zone was fined ₹5,000 for using plastic bags below the legal limit of 79 microns.
In total, 5 major cases involving fines of ₹30,000 were handled in addition to routine enforcement measures.
The NMC’s continued efforts to maintain cleanliness and civic discipline across Nagpur reflect its commitment to public welfare and a cleaner city environment.
