NMC Fines 93 for Public Nuisance, NDS Cracks Down on Public Offenses

Nagpur, India: The Nuisance Detection Squad of Nagpur Municipal Corporation has intensified its efforts against public nuisances, targeting individuals and businesses for urinating in public, littering, spitting, and using plastic bags below 50 microns. On Wednesday, the squad recorded 93 cases and collected fines totaling ₹49,600.

The squad issued 22 fines of ₹400 each, amounting to ₹8,800, to handcart vendors, stalls, paan shops, street hawkers, and small vegetable sellers for littering in their vicinity. Three individuals were fined ₹100 each for dumping garbage on roads, sidewalks, and open spaces, resulting in ₹300 in penalties. Seven shopkeepers were fined ₹400 each, totaling ₹2,800, for dumping garbage in public spaces.

Four businesses, including malls, restaurants, lodges, boarding hotels, cinema halls, marriage halls, and catering service providers, were fined ₹2,000 each, collecting ₹8,000 in total for dumping waste on public roads. Sixteen cases involved the obstruction of traffic with temporary structures, resulting in ₹13,500 in fines. One workshop was fined ₹1,000 for dumping waste on public roads.

Additionally, 31 cases were recorded for other unspecified nuisances, resulting in fines totaling ₹6,200. Nine institutions were fined a total of ₹9,000 for causing various public nuisances.

The actions were led by Nuisance Detection Squad Chief Veersen Tambe.

The squad also fined M/s Roshan Murti Bhandar ₹10,000 under the Gandhibagh zone for selling POP Ganesh idols in violation of municipal rules. M/s Bhokde Dairy in the Satranjipura zone was fined ₹5,000 for using plastic bags. In total, the squad collected ₹15,000 from these two cases.
