NMC Misjudged

In the middle of facing criticism after floods hit on September 23, 2023, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is in more trouble over a flood incident in Ambazari. This time, the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court is ready to make a big decision. The NMC is trying to fix a mistake they made in court about where the Swami Vivekananda statue is located.

The NMC admitted they were wrong in saying the statue was in a 'No Development Zone' instead of a 'Recreational Zone.' This mistake made the judges angry, and they asked who was responsible for letting the statue be built illegally.

The NMC told the court before that the statue was in a 'No Development Zone,' which made the court order an investigation to find out who allowed it. After the court's order, NMC officials explained that they got the wrong information from the Deputy Director of Town Planning.

They said the Deputy Director gave them a cropped section of a plan that didn't have all the details. They relied on the colours in the plan to say the statue was in a 'No Development Zone.' But they later found out it was actually in a 'Recreational Zone,' where construction is allowed.
