NMC Puts Barricades at Ambazari Futala and Gorewada Lake To Avoid Tragic Like Pune

Nagpur, India- The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has decided to install railings at three lakes in the city—Ambazari, Futala, and Gorewada—to stop people from going into the water. This decision was made after a family in Pune was swept away while taking videos near a waterfall. With more people visiting the lakes during the monsoon, there have been reports of young people doing risky stunts. To prevent accidents, Municipal Commissioner Dr Abhijeet Chaudhari ordered the lakes to be fenced off so no one could get too close to the water.

At Gorewada and Ambazari, videos on social media showed people walking on bridges near the water. After an incident at Bhushi Dam in Lonavala, a meeting was held to discuss safety measures. The NMC decided to put up warning signs to keep people away from the water's edge. The Commissioner also warned visitors not to take risks because the water flow during the monsoon can be very dangerous. The NMC will also have a boat at each lake with trained staff for rescue operations if needed.

NMC will station Nuisance Detection Squad (NDS) personnel at each lake to watch for risky behaviour. The Commissioner also asked NMC officials to work with NGOs to educate people about lake safety. He encouraged Nagpurians to enjoy the monsoon season safely and visit the lakes for fun with family and friends.

The meeting was attended by Shewta Banerjee, Superintending Engineer of Public Health Engineering, B.P. Chandankhede, Chief Fire Officer, Veersen Tambe, In-charge of NDS, and other officials.
