NMC Rethinks Cement Roads in Small Lanes After Public Concerns

Nagpur, India: Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is reconsidering its plan to build cement roads in small residential lanes after receiving complaints from the public. Many residents have raised concerns that cement roads can increase heat in their neighbourhoods and cause problems with accessibility.
Deputy Collector Asha Pathan, Officer on Special Duty to the Chief Minister, highlighted these issues in a letter. Following this, NMC officials have been asked to review whether cement roads are necessary in these areas. Residents say that concrete roads make the surroundings hotter during summer and also create difficulties in parking and moving around, especially in narrow lanes.
People have also pointed out that while some areas are getting cement roads, others still do not have basic infrastructure. There are also fears that replacing tar roads with cement without proper planning could cause waterlogging during the rainy season.
Considering these complaints, NMC is now reviewing its road construction plans. Officials will carefully assess each area before continuing with road projects to ensure they meet the needs of the residents.
