NMC Seizes Two Floors of Empress Mall Over ₹42 Lakh Tax Dues

Nagpur, India: In a move to recover outstanding property tax dues, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) took stern action on Monday by seizing two floors of the Empress Mall. The property tax dues, which amounted to ₹42,42,882, led to the execution of a warrant by the Property Tax Department of the Dhantoli Zone.

The seized floors, located on the ground and first levels of the mall, are part of the property developed by KSL Industries Ltd. These floors were under the possession of Ashwin Dattatray Khanzode, who had leased the space for commercial use.

Upon being approached by NMC officials, Khanzode was informed of the outstanding dues. However, despite being given an opportunity to settle the amount, he refused to make any partial payment. As a result, the NMC proceeded with the seizure of the two floors, sealing the premises and taking control of the property as part of the recovery process.

This action highlights the Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s continued efforts to enforce property tax payments and recover outstanding dues, with authorities taking firm steps to address non-compliance.
